Description:
Admission for general candidates ended yesterday on 13th July and Delhi University has now come up with 6th cutoff list. Under DU 6th Cutoff List, a majority of colleges are keeping the admissions for popular commerce and arts courses open for the OBC candidates. However most of the science courses are now closed for admissions.
Some of the popular courses like BCom (H), BCom, BA programme, BA(H) in Economics, English, History and Political Science are open for admissions in most colleges. BCom (H), which is offered across 53 DU colleges, is open for admissions in 39 colleges like Hans Raj, Hindu, IP College, Sri Venkateswara. The course is also open in colleges namely Lady Shri Ram, Gargi, Dyal Singh and Zakir Husain.

Following BCom (H) is BA (H) in English, which is open in 31 colleges including 15 CATE colleges. Other courses like BA programme, History, BCom, Economics and Political Science is open in 29, 28, 26, 24 and 22 colleges respectively. Most of these courses are also open in campus and other popular colleges, which have closed their admissions for many courses for general candidates in the second and third lists itself.

According to a senior university authority, high cutoffs in the general category list mean the OBC cutoff also remained comparatively higher this year. Though most colleges performed better than last year with as many as 20 odd colleges failing to fill up more than 50% of their OBC seats in 2010-2011 admission, there are still many seats vacant. The idea is to give the full 10% relaxation before closing the admission.

In order to maintain a healthy number of OBC students in Delhi University, Delhi University had on 12th July issued a notification preventing its constituent colleges from converting reserved seats that remain vacant on the last day of admissions and making them available to students in the unreserved category.

Thereafter, colleges were directed to release DU 6th Cutoff List, and if situation demands, a seventh cut-off list for OBC students to fill the quota while sticking to rules which stipulate that such students can be given a relaxation of 10 percent from the last cut-off announced for admission to unreserved seats.
